R&D Test Engineer
Ready to be our next Climate Hero?
Location: Chacewater, Truro
Contract: 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract, Full-Time
Salary: £27,500 per annum
Put your practical engineering skills to work and help make heating better for everyone
At Kensa, we’re making heating better - for people, for the planet and for the future. Since 1999, we’ve been leading the way in ground source heat pump technology, delivering affordable, low-carbon heating solutions that support the UK’s transition to net zero.
We’re now looking for an R&D Test Engineer to join our Research and Development team in Truro. In this hands-on, varied role, you’ll work with electro-mechanical equipment and prototypes to help our engineers develop low-carbon heating technology.
If you enjoy understanding how things work, solving practical problems and getting stuck into testing, this could be a great opportunity to put your skills to use in a purpose-driven business.
What you’ll be doing
Carry out R&D tests and monitor their progress in line with agreed test plans.
Oversee the calibration and maintenance of testing equipment.
Build and operate simple test rigs to support development work.
Diagnose and rectify electrical and mechanical faults on prototypes and equipment.
Collaborate with R&D engineers to ensure test plans align with project requirements.
What we’re looking for
Strong attention to detail and a careful approach to testing and practical work.
The ability to grasp new concepts and ideas and apply them in practice.
An organised, orderly approach to your work and workspace.
Practical skills and confidence using hand tools.
Some practical experience with electro-mechanical equipment.
Brazing and soldering experience would be beneficial, but is not essential.
We welcome all levels of practical experience gained through work, study, training or personal projects. If you bring an eye for detail and a willingness to learn, we’d love to hear from you. Previous heat pump experience isn’t required.
What we offer
At Kensa, we’re committed to creating a supportive, rewarding and purpose-driven place to work. When you join us, you can expect:
25 days’ annual leave, increasing to 30 days after five years, plus bank holidays.
Career development support, including training and support for recognised qualifications.
Free 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme for you and your immediate family.
Private healthcare after one year of service.
Paid volunteering days to support community impact.
Electric vehicle salary sacrifice scheme.
Company pension scheme with employer contributions.
A collaborative culture where your work directly supports the UK’s transition to greener, more affordable heating.
Ready to apply?
If you’re excited to put your practical skills to work, solve problems and contribute to the development of low-carbon heating technology, we’d love to hear from you.
We welcome applications from all backgrounds and communities. If you need any adjustments during the application process, please let us know - we’ll be happy to support you.
You’re welcome to include a short cover note explaining what draws you to Kensa and why this role interests you, but it’s optional - please apply in the way that suits you best.
